Ava's answer
Check whether your Texas card already has a REAL ID star. If it does not, use DPS guidance to prepare for a compliant card.
- Check your current card: A gold star indicates a compliant Texas card; if already present, no separate upgrade is needed.
- Review DPS document requirements: Check DPS acceptable proof of identity, citizenship or lawful presence, Social Security number and two Texas residency documents. Bring name-change evidence if applicable.
- Apply through Texas DPS: Use the DPS instructions to arrange an office visit for a new card or follow your eligible renewal or replacement method. Present documents and pay the applicable credential fee to DPS.

Limitations: REAL ID is a credential standard, not a separate fixed-price transaction. DPS publishes $33 for a new or renewed standard driver license ages 18–84, and $11 for a replacement license; other credentials and circumstances differ. Confirm the transaction fee with DPS. Do not upload identity documents to DMV.ai.
DMV.ai is independent and not a government agency. It does not file applications or collect government fees. Confirm current requirements with the official agency. Report an issue
