- Report within 30 days: Iowa law requires reporting a mailing address change to the DOT within 30 days.
- Change your mailing address online (free): Use MyMVD to update only your mailing address. This does not change the home address on your card and no new card is issued.
- Change the home address on your card in person: Book an appointment at any DMV location. You don't need to bring proof; the address is checked electronically. This can't be done online. The replacement card costs $10.
- Vehicles go through the county treasurer: If you move counties, tell your former county treasurer within 10 days so your registration record can be forwarded to your new county.
- Safe at Home participants: Change your address in person (not online) and pay the $10 replacement fee, using the program's special address format.
